Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought, Why do my eyes look so tired?
Sometimes it's puffiness. Sometimes it's hollowness. And sometimes it's a little of both.
They can look similar at first, but they're actually two different things.
Puffy eyes are usually about swelling or fluid around the eye area. You might notice more fullness when you wake up, after a salty meal, when you haven't slept well, or during allergy season.
Hollow eyes are different. Instead of extra fullness, you see more of a dip or shadow underneath the eyes. As we get older, changes in the skin and the natural structure and volume around the eyes can make that are look more sunken.
And then there are dark circles, which can have their own causes.
This is where skincare can get confusing.
We see something in the mirror and immediately start looking for a product to fix it.
But before you buy another eye cream, it helps to understand what your actually looking at.
If it's puffiness, things like sleep, hydration, allergies and even how much salt you've had can affect how the area looks.
A cool compress may also temporarily help with swelling.
If it's hollowness caused by changes underneath the skin, a cream isn't going to replace lost volume. Good skincare can help the skin hydrated and supported, but it can't change underlying structure.
So what did you actually learn from this?
Puffiness is not the same thing as hollowness, and they shouldn't be treated as if they are.
More importantly, not every change you see around your eyes means you need another product.
Sometimes the most useful thing you can do for your skin is understand what's happening before you try to change it.
That's a big part of skincare to me.
Know your skin first. than decide what, if anything, it needs.
